AR

School has started again and so has AR. Reading levels can be pretty confusing. For example, I'm reading a 4.1 book even though my lowest range is 5.0. The confusing part is is that that book is no where near what little kids would read or should be reading. I just confused is all I'm saying. Please comment on what your opinion is.

  1. As a teacher, I feel Accelerated Reader has many advantages and just as many disadvantages.
The main issue I have with AR as a teacher, AR only measures a reader's recall of a story. It cannot measure higher level thinking that can be reached through thoughtful discussion and also teacher made assessments.
AR is a quick, fun, easy way to see if a child read a book and remembered what he or she read. It is not, however, an adequate tool to measure comprehension, analysis and synthesis of a text.

Keep up the good work Book Fair Mere. I enjoy reading your blogs.
